MUSIC AUDITION REQUIREMENTS & APPLICATON INSTRUCTIONS
- Be accepted for admission by January 9th, 2009
- Interest in music as a major or as an co-curricular pursuit
- Have at least a 2.75 grade point average (cumulative high school or college)
- Complete and mail the Music Scholarship Application by Friday, January 9th, 2009.
- If approved for an audition, required attendance at Music Scholarship Audition Day on February 14th, 2009.
- Audio or video recorded auditions will not be accepted.
Instrumentalists, Pianists, Organists
- Two pieces of contrasting styles or two movements within a sonata or concerto (8 minutes maximum).
- Sight-reading and at least three major scales will be evaluated at the audition
Vocalists
- Two pieces of contrasting styles from different time periods (8 minutes maximum). Both pieces must be memorized.
- Sight-singing and tonal memory will be evaluated at the audition
Handbells
- One solo ringing selection.
- Evaluation of sight-reading ability at the audition
Information Regarding Accompanists
- Your accompanist is welcome if you have one, otherwise we will do our best to provide one for you. Your sheet music must be mailed in with the Audition Application by the deadline of Friday, January 9th, 2009.
- Although we are usually able to accommodate all requests for an accompanist, arrangements for an accompanist cannot be guaranteed.
AUDITION DAY: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14th
Audition times
A notification of your audition time and schedule of events will be mailed to you approximately two weeks prior to Audition Day. Please remember that all audition applications are subject to review before granted an audition time. Auditions start at 8:00 am and run until approximately 5:00 pm. Auditions typically last 20 minutes. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Warm up rooms are available for at least 30 minutes prior to your audition time. If you have an audition time constraint, this must be included on your application with an explanation. Once assigned, audition times cannot be changed.
