admission requirements

If you’ve completed your high school coursework successfully, with adequate preparation for the college experience, we’ll be happy to welcome you. A minimum of 16 units of secondary school work is required, of which at least 11 should be in basic liberal arts areas and should be distributed as follows:

  • English: At least three units of English, but four are strongly recommended.
  • Liberal Arts Electives: Two units of the same foreign language or additional units in one or more of the other listed subjects or in fine arts.
  • Mathematics: Two units of college-prep mathematics, preferably one each in Algebra and Geometry.
  • Misc. Electives: Five units from any area of academic study. It is to your advantage if the majority of your additional work is in the other subject areas listed. German or Latin is recommended for the pre-seminary student.
  • Natural Science: Two units of science, preferably one each in Biology, Physics or Chemistry (sorry, watching 2 liters of Coke explode on YouTube doesn’t count).
  • Social Studies: Two units in Social Studies, preferably one each in World history and American history.

While a minimum ACT score of 18 and a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 is required, our students at CUW average 23 and 3.4. The GPA should be based on the following units:

  • Three units of English
  • Two units of Mathematics (Algebra and Geometry)
  • Two units of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) (again, Coke + Mentos does not a requirement meet)
  • Two units of Social Studies (American history plus one elective)

We accept the ELS Academic Report as satisfaction of English language proficiency for international students.

We admit qualified students of any race, color or national or ethnic origin to all programs and activities and are nondiscriminatory in the administration of our policies and programs. To be considered for admission, a student must be a graduate of a regionally accredited high school or one approved by its state university. Requests for exceptions to this requirement may be submitted by candidates who are otherwise qualified.

The average CUW student carries a 3.3 GPA and a 22 ACT
